Creates For and Provides the Project with a One-of-a-Kind Pigmented Concrete

Saudi Readymix provided the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture project in Ithra with a regular supply of high flowability concrete and 5,000 cubic meters of pigmented (colored) concrete. The pigmented concrete was specially created for the project and took Saudi Readymix’s Technical department five months of research and trial mixes before reaching the required strength and shade of natural rock.

Creating the pigmented concrete required was challenging on three levels; there is no existing pigmented concrete in the color of natural rock, reaching the required strength, and the complications of using White Cement in a concrete factory that operates using Portland (grey) cement. Through diligence and persistence backed by extensive knowledge, Saudi Readymix’s Technical department was able reach the required color by replacing the use of Portland cement with white cement imported from Germany and a new recipe of admixtures. The use of white cement was a challenge due to the cleaning of all the machines and trucks used for the making and supply of the pigmented concrete for the project in order not to have any residual grey colored concrete that might affect the shade.

The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture project is a mark of the 75th Anniversary of Saudi Aramco and is created with the vision of becoming the 8th wonder of the world in terms of modern architecture.
